Terrell Davis

Davis is a former American football Running Back who played for the Denver Broncos of the National Football League from 1995 to 2001. Davis was drafted by the Broncos in the sixth round (196th pick overall) of the 1995 NFL Draft. Davis is the Denver Broncos all-time leading rusher, with 7,607 rushing yards. As a player, he was given the nickname "T. D." by players, fans and the media; this denoted both the initials of his first and last name as well as being an abbreviation for touchdown.

In 1995, newly appointed Denver Broncos head coach Mike Shanahan drafted Davis in the 6th Round of the 1995 NFL Draft. Davis entered training camp as the sixth string tailback and was a long shot to make the team. He managed to impress the Broncos coaching staff after his second pre-season game, most notably with a crushing hit as a member of special teams. Davis kept improving with each pre-season game and was promoted to starting running back for the season's opening game. With Davis at running back, the Broncos possessed the potent running attack that they had previously lacked. Davis started 14 games during the 1995 season, carrying the ball 237 times, averaging 4.7 yards per run, and scoring eight touchdowns. Davis finished his season with a total of 1,117 rushing yards, becoming the lowest drafted player to ever gain over 1,000 yards rushing in his rookie season.

In 1996, Davis signed a lucrative new five-year contract with the Broncos that was worth $6.8 million. That season, he rushed for a total of 1,538 yards and set a Denver Broncos record for rushing touchdowns with 13. The Broncos ended that season with a 13–3 record, tied with the Green Bay Packers for the best in the NFL that year.

Following the 1997 Regular Season, the 12-4 Broncos made it through the playoffs to reach the Super Bowl. Not only had the Broncos lost in each of their four previous Super Bowl appearances, but the AFC conference had a 13 year losing streak in Super Bowls against the NFC. In the Super Bowl, Davis rushed for 157 yards, caught two passes for 8 yards, and became the first player in Super Bowl history ever to score three rushing touchdowns. This performance earned him MVP honors despite having to sit out the second quarter due to a migraine, an affliction he has suffered since childhood.

In 1998, Davis rushed for 2,008 yards, then the third highest rushing total in history. This performance earned him league MVP honors, his third straight AFC rushing title, his first NFL rushing title, and his second time being named NFL Offensive Player of the Year by the Associated Press. At the end of the season, the Broncos beat the Atlanta Falcons in Super Bowl XXXIII, with Davis recording 102 rushing yards and 50 receiving yards.

Super Bowl XXXIII was the last postseason game Davis would play in. In his 8 postseason games from 1996 to 1998, his numbers were staggering: 204 carries for 1,140 yards and 12 touchdowns, along with 19 receptions for 131 yards. This included a streak of 7 consecutive games with over 100 rushing yards, all of which the Broncos won, breaking the previous record for consecutive 100 rushing yard postseason games held by John Riggins (6). Even in the sole playoff game in which Davis didn't gain 100 rushing yards, he still had an impressive performance, rushing for 91 yards and a touchdown and catching 7 passes for 27 yards.

That touchdown won the first-ever American Football League game, as the Broncos defeated the Boston Patriots. Mingo also scored the first points in Mile High Stadium, then called Bears Stadium, with an 18-yard field goal. In the 1961 season opener at War Memorial Stadium against the Buffalo Bills, Mingo threw two touchdown passes, from the halfback position, to help the Broncos win 22-10: a 50-yarder to Lionel Taylor in the first quarter, and a 52-yarder to Taylor in the third. Mingo kicked the PATs after each score. He led the American Football League in scoring as a rookie in 1960 with 123 points and in 1962 with 137 points. Mingo holds the Broncos' franchise record for the longest touchdown run, an 82-yarder against the Raiders in 1962. He also played for the Oakland Raiders (1964, 1965), Miami Dolphins (1966, 1967), and Washington Redskins (1967). He kicked for the Pittsburgh Steelers in 1969 and 1970.

His 79.5 sacks is the second highest total in franchise history. In 2001, during half time of a game against the Baltimore Ravens, he and Dennis Smith were inducted into the Denver Broncos Ring of Fame. He is also in the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame and serves on the Broncos Alumni Council.

Since retiring from pro football in 1994 because of an injury, Mecklenburg divides his time between family, motivational speaking, and his ongoing charity involvements. Karel Wegert, the director of his charity, cites Mecklenburg as being very hands on and involved in all facets of the foundation.

Sharpe holds the distinction of being the first tight end ever to amass over 10,000 receiving yards. Shannon was also named a member of the NFL's first team All-Decade team of the 1990's.

Sharpe was drafted in the 7th round of the 1990 NFL Draft, 192nd overall He remained with Denver until 1999, winning two championship rings in Super Bowl XXXII and Super Bowl XXXIII in the process. As a member of the Broncos, Foley played in the Super Bowl twice. He was a starter in Super Bowl XII against the Dallas Cowboys and played in Super Bowl XXI (his final game) against the New York Giants. The Broncos lost both of these games.

Foley scored two touchdowns in his career, both of which came in 1984. He returned a fumble 22 yards on October 15 against the Green Bay Packers and an 40 yard interception on December 15 against the Seattle Seahawks. These scores were key contributions to Broncos' victories.

Foley began his career as a quarterback, playing high school football at Jesuit High School of New Orleans and collegiately at Tulane University, before successfully converting to defensive back.

Floyd Little

Little led American Professional Football in rushing for the six-year period from 1968 to 1973. He retired as the 7th leading rusher in Professional Football history with 6,323 yards rushing and 54 touchdowns. As a Denver Broncos, Little was team captain in his rookie season and in his final season.

Little was one of the first players selected for the Broncos' Ring of Fame in 1984. He was the first Bronco to win the rushing title in the new AFC in 1970 with 901 yards and the following year he became the first Bronco to eclipse 1,000 yards, gaining 1,133 to lead the NFL. Little was the first player to lead his conference in rushing for a last place team and the 13th player ever in professional football to rush for at least 1,000 yards in one season. He was an American Football League All-Star in 1968, named first-team "All-AFL" in 1969, and made the AFC-NFC Pro Bowl in 1970, 1971 and 1973. At 5'10" and 195 pounds, Little was the smallest back to lead the league in rushing since World War II. He led the league in combined yards in 1967 & 68 and was the only player to return punts for TDs in both seasons. From 1968 to 1973 he led the NFL in Rushing and Yards from Scrimmage (rushing and receiving). Little was voted "Running Back of the year" in 1972 by the Professional Football Writers of America, and was 1 of just 7 players to total more than 100 yards (104) per game.

He was the 7th leading rusher in NFL history when he was admitted to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2010, while the first six rushers were already in the Hall of Fame. This was typical of players who played in the American Football League (1960–1969), whom are under-represented in the Hall of Fame. In 2009 Little was a finalist for induction into the Hall of Fame. He was voted in on February 6, 2010, his induction took place in Canton, OH on August 7, 2010. Little was the first Bronco to have his jersey number "44" retired.

He scored a total of six touchdowns and his career long reception was 84 yards, which he accomplished in his rookie season. He rushed the ball 12 times in his career for 104 yards. He averaged 5.2 yards a rush.

Rod Smith

Roderick "Rod" Smith is a retired American football wide receiver of the National Football League. He was originally signed by the Denver Broncos as an undrafted free agent in 1994 and played his entire 14-year career with the team. He played college football at Missouri Southern State.

Smith is the only undrafted free agent to have ever surpassed the 10,000-receiving-yard plateau. He is ranked 15th in NFL history in career receptions and 16th all time in receiving yards.

After the 1994 draft, Smith wasn't drafted. First the New England Patriots signed him but then he was released. Soon after his release, the Denver Broncos signed him. His first NFL catch was a last-minute 43-yard touchdown from John Elway in a 38-31 win against the Washington Redskins on September 17, 1995. In fourteen seasons as an NFL player, Smith had eight seasons of at least 1,000 receiving yards. He had two seasons of at least 100 receptions (2000: 100; 2001: 113). His reception total in 2001 led the league. He was a starting wide receiver of the Broncos' back-to-back Super Bowl championships in 1997 and 1998. In the Broncos' 34-19 win in Super Bowl XXXIII, Smith had 5 receptions for 152 yards (the fourth highest total in Super Bowl history), including an 80-yard touchdown reception. He was a finalist for the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award in 2004.

A hip injury that he suffered in 2006 required a complete hip replacement. On December 28, 2007 it was revealed that Smith will need another hip surgery, possibly ending his career. He was placed on the reserve/retired list on February 15, 2008, and announced his formal retirement from professional football on July 24, 2008 in a press conference from Denver, CO. With two Super Bowl titles, three Pro Bowl appearances, and a controversy-free career noted for professionalism, Smith left the Denver Broncos as one of the most well-loved Broncos players of all time.

Ed McCaffrey

McCaffrey is a former American football Wide Receiver who played for the New York Giants (1991–1993), San Francisco 49ers (1994) and the Denver Broncos (1995–2003) of the National Football League.

McCaffrey was drafted by the Giants in the third round (83rd overall pick) in the 1991 NFL Draft. During his thirteen year career, he won three Super Bowl rings (in Super Bowl XXIX, XXXII and XXXIII) and made a Pro Bowl appearance in 1998. While playing for the Denver Broncos, he became a reliable target for quarterback John Elway. He set a Broncos record for most receptions in a season (with 101 receptions in 2000), and had an exceptional performance in Super Bowl XXXIII, recording five catches for 72 yards. Also in 1999, McCaffrey and teammate Rod Smith became only the second wide receiver duo from the same team to each gain 100 receptions in the same season (see Herman Moore and Brett Perriman).

On September 10, 2001, McCaffrey suffered a compound leg fracture while playing a Monday Night Football game with the Broncos against the Giants. In sustaining the injury, he made a spectacular catch and did not fumble the ball. He rebounded in the 2002 season with 69 receptions and 903 yards. Hampered by injuries, Ed retired on February 29, 2004, after a disappointing 2003 season. McCaffrey finished his career with 565 career receptions for 7,422 yards and 55 touchdowns while wearing the number 87.

Tyrone Braxton

Braxton is a former American football Defensive Back who played for the Denver Broncos for most of his career from 1987 to 1999. Braxton also played one season with the Miami Dolphins in 1994 and was a one time Pro Bowler in 1996, a season in which he led the National Football League in interceptions with 9.

Braxton played in 5 Super Bowls with the Broncos, and won 2 NFL championship rings in Super Bowl XXXII and Super Bowl XXXIII. In Super Bowl XXXII, he recorded a key interception from Brett Favre that set up a Broncos touchdown. Braxton finished his 13 NFL seasons with 36 interceptions, which he returned for 617 yards and 4 touchdowns. He also recorded 3 sacks and 10 fumble recoveries, which he returned for 106 yards.

Braxton played college football at North Dakota State University where he earned all-conference honors as a senior and was drafted by the Broncos in the 12th round of the 1987 NFL Draft.

Braxton is currently an assistant coach at Arvada High School under head coach Kevin Clark, another former Denver Bronco.

Dave Preston

Richard David "Dave" Preston is a former professional American football player who played running back for six seasons for the Denver Broncos from 1978 to 1983. He played college football at Bowling Green State University.

John Elway

Elway is a former American football Quarterback and currently is the Executive Vice President of football operations for the Denver Broncos. He played college football at Stanford and his entire professional career for the Denver Broncos of the National Football League (NFL). Elway is widely regarded as one of the finest athletes of his generation to play the quarterback position. Elway recorded the most victories by a starting quarterback at the time of his retirement. He retired as statistically as the second most prolific passer in NFL history in 1999.

Elway was one of the 1980s and 1990s most versatile and prominent quarterbacks who led his team to six AFC Championship Games and five Super Bowls, winning his last two. His rugged competitiveness, durability, impromptu play-making and renown to excel in late crucial situations defined his playing career that changed the outcome of many of his team's close games.

Elway set several career records for passing attempts and completions while at Stanford. He also received All-American honors. Elway was drafted #1 overall in the 1983 NFL Draft by the Baltimore Colts before being traded to the Denver Broncos. In 1987, he embarked on what is considered to be one of the most clutch and iconic performances in sports and in NFL historiography, helping engineer the Broncos on a 98-yard, game-tying touchdown drive in the AFC Championship Game against the Cleveland Browns. The moment is known in National Football League lore as "The Drive". Following the AFC Championship Game, Elway and the Broncos lost in Super Bowl XXI to the New York Giants. It would be the first of a record five Super Bowl starts at quarterback in Elway's career.

After two more Super Bowl losses, the Broncos entered a period of decline; however, that would end during the 1997 season, as Elway and Denver won their first Super Bowl title by defeating the Green Bay Packers, 31–24, in Super Bowl XXXII. The Broncos repeated as champions the following season in Super Bowl XXXIII by defeating the Atlanta Falcons, 34–19. Elway was voted MVP of that Super Bowl, which would prove to be the last game of his career.

Elway was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2004 in his first year of eligibility. Since his retirement, Elway has owned several businesses, including currently being a co-owner of the inactive Colorado Crush, an arena football team.

Elway currently writes a weekly NFL blog and occasionally answers members' questions for the newly launched sports website OPENSports.com. His son Jack was a quarterback for the Arizona State Sun Devils for one season.

On January 5, 2011, Elway was named Executive Vice President of football operations for the Denver Broncos. In this capacity, he reports to Joe Ellis (team president) and oversees both the General Manager (Brian Xanders) and head coach John Fox.

After retiring from the NFL, Treadwell attended law school at the University of Denver and participated in the campaign to pass a ballot measure to fund the replacement for Mile High Stadium which ultimately became known as Invesco Field at Mile High. That led to a new career in the media. He became a sports talk show host at Denver-based Clear Channel corporation stations KOA and KTLK before moving to Denver's KDVR-TV (Fox 31) as sports director and anchor from 2000 to 2004.

Corporate Training

Have you ever asked yourself what makes the difference between a leader and a manager?

If you’re like most managers, you probably haven’t.

One of the biggest drags on profitability and performance today, is the fact that so many businesses are ineffective at recruiting people with leadership potential and shaping them into capable, competent leaders. Companies will spend hours figuring out ways to squeeze as much productivity as possible out of their managers, without ever asking themselves what they would be doing to develop leaders who inspire others to be at their best 100% of the time.

Denver Broncos Alumni

Where can you go to book a speaking engagement with alumni from one of the most famous and successful football teams ever?  Effective Presentations!

At Effective Presentations, we are proud to represent the Denver Broncos Alumni Association for public speaking engagements and personal appearances.

Not only is it an honor for us to represent such a distinguished organization with so many famous members, it is an absolute privilege for us to be able to offer Broncos alumni as speakers for your organization.

The Broncos’ Story

There is nothing more motivating than to be addressed by someone who has been through some of the most dramatic moments in sports history and lived to tell about it. When you book a Broncos alumnus for your event, you too can relive the excitement and glory, colorfully and honestly retold.

In the past 30 years, the Broncos have won two Super Bowl titles and six AFC championships; many of the speakers from the Broncos alumni association have been part of these achievements first hand.

In many ways, the Broncos’ success may have seemed predestined, but in fact, it was actually the result of dedication, discipline, hard work and leadership.

The broncos were founded in 1959 and began to play in 1960, the inaugural season of the American Football league. Throughout the decades, they have stayed true to their roots, remaining in Denver for the last 50 years.

But while they have stayed close to their origins, they have also racked up one of the most impressive records in football history. Since the AFL-NFL merger in 1970, the Broncos have racked up ten division titles, six AFC Champions, won Super Bowls XXXII and XXXIII, and built one of the most valuable franchises in the history of pro sports.

One of the most famous Broncos, John Elway, was not only named MVP of Super Bowl XXXIII, but remains the Broncos’ all-time leading passer, throwing for 51,475 yards and 300 touchdowns.  And yes, Elway is one of several Broncos alumni that we manage for speaking engagements and personal appearances.

Some of the Bronco's Alumni:

David Treadwell Larry Brunson Chuck Gavin
John Elway Floyd Little Mark Jackson
Dave Preston Le-Lo Lang Karl Mecklenburg
Tyrone Braxton Steve Foley Gene Mingo
Ed McCaffrey Steve Sewell Reggie Rivers
Rod Smith  Shannon Sharpe Billy Thompson

Bookin’ Broncos

There are many reasons to book a Denver Bronco alumni for your event.

As former professional athletes, they know more about teamwork, cooperation and dedication than any “expert” you’ve ever come across.

As public icons, they know what it’s like to deliver under the pressure of media scrutiny day in and day out, something every leader will need to confront once they get along in their career.

But more than that, there’s just something special about booking a real, genuine sports legend for a speaking engagement.

Just imagine having a football hero address your people live in an intimate and interactive setting. How many lessons would you learn by hearing from one of the most determined, disciplined and dedicated athletes on the face of the earth?  How inspirational would it be to see someone who spent their career playing on one of the most legendary teams in sports history, giving valuable advice on leadership, teamwork and cooperation?

More than you can imagine.

So if you want to book a keynote speech or personal appearance from a Broncos alumnus, contact Effective Presentations. We will work tirelessly to make this a reality for you.

Dear Effective Presentations, “This was the first time this week I didn’t feel like falling asleep.  One of the best, most comfortable public speakers I have ever observed.  I learned more from Mike in 2 days than my whole college career.”
